Welcome to the Yurok Office of
Emergency Services
Our Mission
We will realize our vision by building towards a safer more resilient Yurok Tribal Nation, leveraging effective partnerships, developing our workforce through proper trainings, enhancing our technology’s, and maintaining our culture through protection of our community and resources.
Yurok Office of Emergency Services (YOES) protects lives and property, builds capabilities, and supports our communities for a more resilient Tribal Government. We achieve our mission by serving the public through effective collaboration in preparing for, protecting against, responding to, recovering from, and mitigating the impacts of all hazards and threats to the Yurok People and surrounding communities.
Be Aware and Be Prepared
Disaster can strike quickly and without warning. When disaster strikes, you may not have much time to respond. Essential services could be cut off for days in our remote area. After a disaster, local officials and relief workers will be on the scene, but they cannot reach everyone immediately. Your family will cope best by preparing for disaster before it strikes. One way to prepare is by assembling an Emergency Kit. If you have a plan and supplies in advance, your family can be prepared, safe, and self-sufficient.
The Yurok Office of Emergency Services (YOES) coordinates and participates in emergency planning, response, and recovery in collaboration with tribal, federal, and state partners.

9-11 and Emergency
Response Information
In an emergency situation, the best way to get help is to activate the Emergency Response System by calling 9-11. This will pinpoint location and allow the emergency call to be routed to the proper responding agency.
Some updated cell phones like the iPhone even have SOS capabilities of emergency calls in areas where standard cell service does not work. 911 also has the capabilities to receive notifications via text message.
If texting 9-11, enter the number 911 (no spaces or dashes) into the field bar. First text message should be brief and include the address, city, type of emergency (police / fire / medical). Then press send. Be prepared to answer the following questions or follow instructions from the 911 call center. Text in simple words. Do not use abbreviations, symbols, emojis. Keep text messages brief and concise.
